This pattern is a part of the Garden of Dreams CAL project.

You need 7 different colors of yarn for this flower square. You can crochet this square using almost any kind of yarn, but I recommend yarns with a hook recommendation of max 4.5 mm.

Make a magic ring and crochet rnd 1 sts into it.


Rnd 1

Dark Gray 

Ch 3 (count as dc), 11 dc into ring. Join to the top of 3rd ch with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 2

Mustard 

Start in any st of previous rnd.

(SShdc (count as hdc in next repeats), dc into same st, 2 tr into next 2 sts, dc and hdc into next st) 3 times. Join to the 1st hdc with slst.

Rnd 3

Mustard 

(Ch 1 (count as sc here and in next repeats), 2 hdc into next st, 2 dc into next 4 sts, 2 hdc into next st, sc) 3 times. Join to the 1stch with slst. 

[6 sc, 12 hdc, 24 dc]

Rnd 4

Mustard 

(Ch 1 (count as sc here and in next repeats), Bphdcin the next 12 sts, sc, FPdc around dc of rnd 1. See photo.) 3 times. Join to the 1stch with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 5

Yellow 

Turn your work, wrong side facing up.

Work into rnd 1.  

Start with any st following a stitch with FPdc worked around post from rnd 4. Looking from right side this is located one st before FPdc, see photo, (blue arrow = starting st. Red arrow FPdc).  

(SSFPsc (count as FPsc here and in next repeats), ch 3, sk st) 6 times. Join to the 1st sc with slst.

Rnd 6

Yellow 

Turn your work right side facing up, working into rnd 5.

Slst into next ch3-sp. (Ch 3 (count as dc here and in next repeats), 5 dc into same ch3-sp (there are now and will be in next repeats 6 dc in same ch3-sp), sk FPsc) 3 times 

(2 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc) into next ch3-sp, sk FPsc, 6 sc into next ch3-sp, sk FPsc, (2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc) into next ch3-sp, skFPsc). Join to the 3rdch with slst.

Rnd 7

Yellow 

Ch 2 (count as hdc),hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next 2 sts, (2 dc into same st) 2 times,

(2 tr into same st) 3 times,

2 dc into next st, hdc in the next st, sc in the next 2 sts, hdc in the next st,

2 dc into next st,

(2 tr into next st) 3 times,

(2 dc into next st) 2 times, dc in the next 2 sts, hdc in the next 12 sts. Join to the top of 2nd ch with slst.

Rnd 8

Yellow 

Ch 1 (count as sc), 3 sc, FPdc around FPdc of rnd 4, 17 sc, FPdc around FPdc of rnd 4, 18 sc, FPdc around FPdc of rnd 4, 9 sc. Join to the 1st ch with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 9

Light Gray 

The sts to be skipped are not mentioned.  

Turn your work, wrong side facing up.

Work into rnd 5.  

SSFPdc around sc of rnd 5 (this is the next st after FPdc, see photo. Blue arrow is the starting point, red arrow shows the FPdc of rnd8. Check red arrow also in previous pic of rnd 8). 

(Ch 5, sk 6 st, FPdc around next sc of rnd 5) 5 times, ch 5. Join to the 1st FPdc with slst.

Rnd 10

Light Gray 

Turn your work right side facing up, working into rnd 9, Slst into next ch5-sp.

(Ch 3 count as dc here and in next repeats,5 dc into same ch5-sp.  There are now and will be in next repeats 6 dc in same ch5-sp, skFPdc) 6 times. Join to the top of 3rdch with slst.

Rnd 11

Light Gray 

Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in the next 2 sts, (ch 2, dc in next 12 sts) 2 times.  Ch 2, dc in the next 9 sts. Join to the top of 3rdch with slst.

Rnd 12

Light Gray 

Slst back 1 st.Ch 2 (count as sc + 1 ch), [sk 3 sts, (tr3-cl, ch 2) 3 times into ch2-sp, tr3-cl into same ch2-sp, ch 1, sk 3 st, 6 sc]* 3 times. Omit last sc. Join to the top of 1st ch with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 13

Dark Gray 

The start point is the tr-3cl between 13 sc petal and the 17 sc petal (see photo of rnd 12, red arrow). (Hint: st marker placed in FPdc of rnd 8 is starting st.) 

(SSFPsc around tr-3cl, 3 sc into ch2-sp) 3 times, FPsc around tr-3cl, tr into 4th sc after FPdc of rnd 8. Sc in the sp between last tr-3cl and sc, sk 2 sts, 4 dc into next st, picot, 4 dc into next st, sk 2 sts, sc in the sp between sc and 1sttr-3cl, tr into 10th sc of rnd 8 after last tr, check picture

FPsc around tr-3cl, 3 sc into ch2-sp) 3 times, FPsc around tr-3cl, tr into 4th sc after FPdc of rnd 8. Sc in the sp between last tr-3cl and sc, sk 2 sts, 4 dc into next st, picot, 4 dc into next st, sk 2 sts, sc into between sc and 1sttr-3cl, tr into 10th sc after last tr made in rnd 8. 

(FPsc around tr3-cl, 3 sc into ch2-sp) 3 times, FPsc around tr3-cl, tr into 4thsc after FPdc rnd 8. Sc in the sp between last tr-3cl and sc, sk 2 sts, 4 dc into next st, picot, 4 dc into next st, sk 2 sts, sc in the sp between sc and 1sttr-3cl, tr into 6th sc after last tr made in rnd 8.  

Join to the 1st FPSc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 14

Black 

Start in 2ndFPsc of Rnd 13, (5thst after the 1stst of rnd 13, this is 2nd FPsc) 

(SSsc (counts as sc here and in next repeats), sc in the next 4 sts, hdc in the next 2 sts, dc in the next 4 sts, BPdc around next 4 sts, ch 1, sk picot, BPdc around the next 4 sts,  dc in the next 4 sts,  hdc in the next 2 sts) 3 times. Join to the 1stsc with slst.

Rnd 15

Black 

Ch 3 (count as dc), dc in the next 14 sts, (dc into ch1-sp, hdc into picot, dc into same ch1-sp, dc in the next 25 sts -note the 1stst after ch1-sp is slightly hidden-)2 times 

Dc into ch1-sp, hdc into picot, dc into same ch1-sp, dc in the next 10 dc. Join to the top of 3rdch with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off. 

Place st markers into rnd 15:

1stmarker in starting ch3 (count as dc), 20 stitches between each marker.

4 markers in total. 

Stitch count: 81 dc, 3 hdc. 84 sts total.

Rnd 16

Light Gray 

Remove st markers as you work to them.  

Start in 3rdst on right side before any st marker. 

SSsc, sk 2 st, 8 dc into marked st, sk 2 st, (sc in the next 16 st, sk 2 st, 8 dc into marked st, sk 2 st) 3 times, 15 sc.

Join to the 1st sc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.  

There are now 4 sides to your work.

Rnd 17

White 

SSsc into the sc before 8 dc group.

*Ch 2, sk dc, puff into dc, ch 2, sk dc, puff into dc, ch 3, puff into dc, ch 2, sk dc, puff into dc, ch 2, sk dc, 16 sc.* Repeat * * 3 times. Omit last sc. Join to the 1st sc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 18

Black 

*SSFPsc (count as FPsc here and in the next repeats)into any corner 1stpuff. 2 sc into ch2-sp, FPsc into puff, 5 sc into ch3-sp, 

*FPsc into puff, 2 FPsc into ch2-sp, FPsc into puff, sc into ch2-sp, SPsc in the next 16 sts, sc into ch2-sp.* Repeat 3 times. Join to the 1stsc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off 

[(4 FPsc, 16 SPsc, 6sc) / side, 5 sc/corner)]

Rnd 19

Gray 

Note that last sc of corner repeats lay in SPsc 

SSsc into 1st FPsc on top of 1stpuff at the corner,

*(Ch 1, sk st, sc) 7 times. Sk 2 sts, (2 dc into next st, ch 2, 2 dc into next st, sk 2 st) 3 times. Sc, ch 1, sk st, sc.* Repeat * * 3 times, omit last sc. Join to the 1stsc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 20

Yellow 

SSBPsc into any sc before 1stdc of any side.See photo

*(Ch 4, sk 2 dc, (pc into ch2-sp, ch 4, sk 4 dc), 2 times. Pc into ch2-sp, ch4, sk 2 st, BPsc into sc, (ch 4, sk (1 ch, sc, 1 ch), BPsc) 4 times.* Repeat * * 3 times, omit last BPsc on last repeat. Join to the 1stsc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off. 

[(8 x ch4-sp, 3 pc, 2 sc, 4BPsc) / side, 1 BPsc/ corner)]

Rnd 21

Black 

Note: We will work in rnds 19 and 20.Work in front of ch-sps of these rnds. 

Work into rnd 19 unless stated otherwise. 

*SSdc (count as dc here and in the next repeats)into middle sc at the corner,check picture. Ch 2, dc into same st. 

(FPtr into sk st of rnd 18, dc into sc) 4 times. Note, last dc should be in the same st where a BPsc was made in rnd 20. 

2 dc into dcs, (FPsc into pc rnd 20), 4 dc) 2 times. FPsc into pc rnd 20, 3 dc, (FPtr into sk st in rnd 18, dc into sc) 3 times. FPtr into sk st in rnd 18.* repeat * * 3 times 

Join to the 1st dc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off. 

[(8 FPtr, 22 dc, 3 FPsc) / side, ch2-sp / corner]

Rnd 22

Gray 

SSsc into a dc before ch2-sp of any corner, sc into same st. (Ch 2, sk ch2-sp, 2 sc into next st, sc next 31 sts, 2 sc into the last dc at the side) 4 times, omit last 2 sc into same dc on last repeat. Join to the 1stsc. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 23

Mustard 

(SSdc, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into any corners ch2-sp working into/over both ch-sps of rnd 21 and 22.  

Note the 1st st after ch-sp is slightly hidden 

*Ch 1, (sk sc, sc, ch 1) 17 times, sk st, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into the corner ch2-sp (working into/over the ch-sp of rnd 21 and 22). *Repeat * * 3 times, omit last corner sts.

Join to the 1stdc with slst. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 24

Black 

(SSdc, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into corners ch2-sp.

*2 dc, (2 dc into ch1-sp, sk sc) 17 times, 2 dc into ch1-sp, 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into corners ch-sp.* Repeat * * 3 times, omit last (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). Join to the 1stdc with slst. 

Cut yarn and fasten off or you may continue on with making The Garden paths section. 

Fasten off and secure all ends, block the square, wet and let dry.
